Buffalo Bills Community is committed to accuracy in everything we publish. Despite our best efforts, mistakes can happen. This policy explains how we identify, evaluate, and correct errors in our content, and how you can report one to us.
How We Handle Errors
When an error is identified — whether by our team, a reader, or a source — we review it promptly and take one of the following actions depending on its nature and severity:
- Correction — Used for factual errors: incorrect names, dates, figures, quotes, or other verifiable facts. The article is updated with the accurate information, and a correction note is added.
- Update — Used when new information becomes available after publication that adds context or reflects a development in an ongoing story. The article is revised and a note indicates it has been updated.
- Clarification — Used when the original wording was factually accurate but could reasonably be misread or misunderstood. The text is revised for clarity, and a clarification note is added.
- Retraction — Used in rare cases where a story is found to be fundamentally inaccurate, unsupported, or should not have been published. The article is removed or replaced with an explanation of the retraction.
How Corrections Are Labeled
Corrected articles include a visible note at the top or bottom of the piece stating what was changed and when. We do not silently edit published content to fix substantive factual errors — the correction is disclosed to readers rather than hidden.
Minor, non-substantive fixes (such as typos, formatting, or broken links) may be corrected without a formal note, as these do not affect the accuracy or meaning of the content.
Our Response Time
We aim to review and act on reported errors as quickly as possible:
- Significant factual errors (incorrect facts, figures, names, or quotes): reviewed and corrected, where confirmed, typically within 24–48 hours of being reported.
- Minor errors (typos, formatting issues): corrected on an ongoing basis as they are identified.
- Complex claims requiring verification: may take longer, as we confirm details with original sources before making a change.
